He moved to Princeton University to pursue his PhD study with Prof. Paul Chirik. Hongyu's graduate research focused on developing a new generation of cobalt catalysts for the asymmetric hydrogenation of pharmaceutically relevant compounds. After completing his PhD in 2021, Hongyu joined Prof. Bill Morandi's group at ETH Zürich as a post-doc. Supported by the ETH Fellowship, he developed new strategies for nickel-mediated molecular editing chemistry. Hongyu joined the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Nanyang Technological University as a Nanyang Assistant Professor in August, 2024.
